Quality human resources are the main capital in development. The quality of human resources is largely determined by factors of education, technical ability and experience. Education gives a person the ability to share knowledge that is accumulated and documented through formal educational institutions. This accumulation of knowledge can be in the form of a collection of experience or reasoning or thought. Meanwhile, a person’s experience is subjective which makes him more mature in understanding something. And lastly, technical ability is the mastery of specific skills needed to strengthen decision-making and support one’s productivity. Thus the combination of education, experience and technical ability will make a person have high resource capabilities to be able to contribute to the development of a nation. For undergraduate and advanced education in particular, the education must be able to produce people who are ready to enter the world of work in the midst of increasing competition. For this reason, the continuing education provided must be balanced between theory-based education and applied-based education.
On the other hand, programs that can meet the demands of the world of work related to the application of the discipline of economics itself are currently not available. These demands generally arise from those who in their profession require a foundation of economics and various analytical tools developed for economic analysis, such as non-university research institutions, industry, government agencies, and banks. One of the basic demands that are often put forward is how the theories and concepts learned can contribute and can be used in the analysis and decision making of their professional world.
Based on the great public interest in the applied economics program, the Department of Economics and Development Studies in 2003 established a study program related to applied economics for the master’s level, which was named the Master of Applied Economics Program at Padjadjaran University (MET-UNPAD) in accordance with the Decree. DIKTI No. 3794/D/T/2006. Master of Applied Economics Program Padjadjaran University (MET-UNPAD) in accordance with BAN-PT Decree No. 1458/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/M/V/2019, states that the Masters Program of Padjadjaran University, Bandung City is Accredited with an A rating.
Lectures in the MET Program UNPAD are held with a tri-semester system. That is, 1 (one) year of the Academic Calendar is divided into 2 (two) academic cycles (semesters).
